Burlington Centaurs opened the season at home with games against a strong Waterloo III side and the Bruce County Barbarians. The seconds XV struggled to keep pace with the an organised Waterloo III side although good performances by Andy Maunder and Callum Sharp were the highlight for the Burlington team. Stronger in the loose and overall more experience the Waterloo team ran out comfortable 50-12 winners in the end.
The first XV welcomed Bruce County who arrived just before kickoff and it proved to be their undoing, with the Centaurs coming out of the blocks running in 8 tries in the first half and playing some fantastic rugby in the process. Once again for the second week in a row the ball was flowing through the hands with Burlington building phase after phase before crossing the try line on numerous occasions. A spirited comeback by the Barbarians for the first 10 minutes of the second half didn’t yield any points and the Centaurs took advantage adding another 7 tries. Good performances by Mike Daniels and Kyle Wilki were the highlight of many, and the boys did well to push hard for 80 minutes, which was reflected in the 87-0 final scoreline.
