The Burlington Centaur’s men’s rugby teams had another successful weekend at home this week winning two and tying one of their matches. The Thirds started it off with a 22-22 draw against Waterloo who scored in the closing minutes to even the score. A few veteran players returned from injury to help the Thirds regroup after a tough road loss last weekend.
Following that match the Burlington 2nd XV put on a strong performance to win 36-12 over the Guelph Redcoats 2nd XV. Good ball movement and decision making helped the offensive play of Juan Palacio and Dave Cooper really shine, while strong defence from youngsters Gurvir Romana and Jack Ellis helped stifle the Guelph attack.
Rounding the day off for the men was a Burlington 1st XV victory over the Guelph 1st XV by a score of 60-3. The entire team played a role in the win having to defend against a very strong wind in the first half finishing the half up by a score of 17-3, and coming out strong in attack in the second half with the wind at their backs to score six more tries. It was also a strong 1st team debut by Sam Crane at scrum half for Burlington, scoring one try while setting up multiple others and scoring another 15 points from kicks.
