Awards wrap up – Fall Tests – NRU AGM – Important Dates

Centaurs, Alumni & Supporters:

Cold weather is upon us but still lots of rugby happenings and events. But first a reminder that today at 1pm is the Keith Grant Memorial at Sherwood Forest in Dome 1. Burlington Youth Soccer Club is asking on behalf of Keith to just wear a jersey, bring a lawn chair and bring down a canned good to donate. The Clubhouse will be open for those wanting to raise a pint to Keith.

Annual Awards Dinner

Last Fridays awards dinner was a scaled down affair from previous years due to numbers. Perhaps a lot of you were still recovering from the 40th dinner. No matter, all in attendance rose to the task and had a great time.

With regular dinner host Cye Beechy out of town, Monty Heald had agreed to emcee the evening. Unfortunately, an eleventh hour bug keep Monty in for the night and sadly for the attendees the role fell to me.

I acted more as a traffic cop, efficiently moving things along so we could get to the partying portion of the evening. However, I was saddled with the task of leading grace. Now having lead the Christmas Carols last year and subsequently B’nai Brith keeping an eye on me, I chose a “berachot” (hebrew for blessing) over wine. Another first (and last !) for Centaurs rugby.

Anyways, enough of me and on to the important folks……the Award recipients :

BOTY: Louis Hinshelwood
GIMP: Tim Morton
Iron Man: Mark Van Dyke
3rd XV Award: Saad Kahn
2nd XV Award: Kyle Wilkens
Rookie of the Year: Nate Bryan
Most Improved: James Edgar
Jr Endeavour: Maria Skinner and Brendan Bryan
Endeavour Cup: Danny Jenkins
Endeavour Sheild: Nick Manz and Claire Pilloud

Congratulations to these well deserved Centaurs.

Thanks also to the Dickens for catering yet another fantastic meal and to Centaur alumni Paul Kelly for dj’ing the evening. Photos can be found on the club facebook page.

Fall Internationals

The fall tests continue Saturday with England taking on the All Blacks at 9:30.
The NRU AGM is being held in Burlington this year and so the plan is to have the Ireland /Australia game at 12:45 be taped. It is hoped that the AGM will be completed by 2:45, in time for the Wales / Argentina game and then show the taped Ireland game after.

Cost for entry is $15 and we will attempt to move a TV downstairs if the taping plan falls through. But come in the morning for confirmation of viewing schedule.

Go Centaurs !
