The Burlington Centaurs RFC would like to formally announce Jon Goldie as the new head coach of the Senior Men’s Division.
Hailing originally from Scotland, Jon Goldie, now a proud Canadian citizen, comes from a strong rugby background with 25 years of experience in the game. He has represented Ontario at all levels and Scotland at the Under 21 and University levels. He currently relives his glory days representing the Canadian Classics Rugby club annually in Bermuda.
During his rugby career, Jon has been fortunate to have worked under some of the most esteemed coaches in the British game and thus brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Since immigrating to Canada, Jon can list the Burlington Centaurs, the Oakville Crusaders and the Brantford Harlequins amongst the clubs for which he has played. He has also captained and coached the Niagara Thunder in the Rugby Canada Super League.
The Burlington Centaurs are proud to welcome Jon Goldie back into the Centaurs organization and look forward to him leading the Senior Men’s team in the upcoming 2014 rugby season.
Stay tuned for additional coaching personnel announcements coming soon.

See the message below from our Santa Clause parade Float Co-ordinator, Karen Dagleish :
Please come out and join us for this fun family event!
The Club is having a float in the Burlington Christmas Parade again this year. The Parade is the afternoon of Sunday December 1st. Please come out and join us – you can ride on the float and wave to everyone or join the players who follow the float and toss balls to the crowd. All ages are welcome & bring the whole family – sibling and even friends are welcome on the float.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to decorate the float on Saturday Nov 30th at the bus garage at Burlington Transit. It is inside and warm. Come out and join us – it is always lots of fun. We also need help planning the float design. Please email Karen Dalgleish Kldalgleish@sympatico.ca or Debbie Park firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in helping and we will arrange a planning meeting in the next 2 weeks.
Thanks & hope you can make it.
Centaurs, Alumni & Supporters:
Cold weather is upon us but still lots of rugby happenings and events. But first a reminder that today at 1pm is the Keith Grant Memorial at Sherwood Forest in Dome 1. Burlington Youth Soccer Club is asking on behalf of Keith to just wear a jersey, bring a lawn chair and bring down a canned good to donate. The Clubhouse will be open for those wanting to raise a pint to Keith.
Annual Awards Dinner
Last Fridays awards dinner was a scaled down affair from previous years due to numbers. Perhaps a lot of you were still recovering from the 40th dinner. No matter, all in attendance rose to the task and had a great time.
With regular dinner host Cye Beechy out of town, Monty Heald had agreed to emcee the evening. Unfortunately, an eleventh hour bug keep Monty in for the night and sadly for the attendees the role fell to me.
I acted more as a traffic cop, efficiently moving things along so we could get to the partying portion of the evening. However, I was saddled with the task of leading grace. Now having lead the Christmas Carols last year and subsequently B’nai Brith keeping an eye on me, I chose a “berachot” (hebrew for blessing) over wine. Another first (and last !) for Centaurs rugby.
Anyways, enough of me and on to the important folks……the Award recipients :
BOTY: Louis Hinshelwood
GIMP: Tim Morton
Iron Man: Mark Van Dyke
3rd XV Award: Saad Kahn
2nd XV Award: Kyle Wilkens
Rookie of the Year: Nate Bryan
Most Improved: James Edgar
Jr Endeavour: Maria Skinner and Brendan Bryan
Endeavour Cup: Danny Jenkins
Endeavour Sheild: Nick Manz and Claire Pilloud
Congratulations to these well deserved Centaurs.
Thanks also to the Dickens for catering yet another fantastic meal and to Centaur alumni Paul Kelly for dj’ing the evening. Photos can be found on the club facebook page.
The fall tests continue Saturday with England taking on the All Blacks at 9:30.
The NRU AGM is being held in Burlington this year and so the plan is to have the Ireland /Australia game at 12:45 be taped. It is hoped that the AGM will be completed by 2:45, in time for the Wales / Argentina game and then show the taped Ireland game after.
Cost for entry is $15 and we will attempt to move a TV downstairs if the taping plan falls through. But come in the morning for confirmation of viewing schedule.
