The Burlington Centaurs RFC is proud to announce the appointment of Paul Harrington as the new head coach for our Senior Women’s Team. Some of you may remember him from the amazing skills session he ran for us back in the fall. Paul Currently lives in England but will be making a move to Burlington in January.
Paul has dedicated the last 12 years to coaching rugby and is a qualified level 2 coaches in England and Wales. He has coached for a wide range of age groups from under 6s to Senior Men’s. He has been an integral member of many clubs including HM Forces Army, Hampshire County RFC and Alton RFC. His dedication and innovation in coaching has allowed Paul to move through the ranks from Assistant to Head Coach. Recently Paul has spent his last 2 seasons coaching U15 and U18 Girls at Hampshire level, Alton College, various secondary schools, and with Basingstoke RFC. Due to his success at Basingstoke 5 ladies were selected for the England U15 Academy program. Furthermore, Paul was engaged the East Hampshire Disabled Sports Society and assisted for a period, the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby squad in 2011. The focus of these programs, and of Paul’s, was to teach rugby to those with severe mental and physical challenges, and to allow and new group of people access to this amazing sporting world.
Paul’s rugby career started at 14 as a player in his local school. From there he moved onto and played for various teams during his military career finishing with his last game at Alton RFC after reaching attaining his half century age marker!
Paul describes himself as being as ‘thick as two short planks’. He further mentions he only able to obtain any form of educational acknowledgement during his early years in the Military, as failure to complete homework was met with a painful demonstration of central management control, from a tired and still inebriated Physical Training Instructor who proved that you can make people physically exhausted with 15 minutes without having to break a sweat themselves! Watch out for ladies for physical fitness training!!!! Despite all of this, Paul will be working for a company called GFT as the Regulatory, Risk & Compliance Strategic Head for North America.
