It was a successful weekend for the Burlington Centaurs Men’s teams with all three squads picking up victories.

On Saturday the 2nd XV opened up the season with a strong 27-5 victory over local rivals, the Hamilton Hornets. The Burlington defence was the highlight of the game holding the opposition to only one try, while strong forward play helped pave the way for the win.

Similarly the 1st XV was matched up against Hamilton and put on an impressive display winning 89-5. The Centaurs were nearly unstoppable in attack with a great display of handling skill and strong running. In the end, 8 Burlington players combined for 15 tries.

A friendly match followed the success of Saturday between the Centaur’s 3rd XV against visiting Binghamton University from New York State. Burlington bested the youthful visitors utilizing a combination of experienced players with some young, quick, and upcoming talent. The final score was 66-12 in favor of the hosting side that was proud to have several new players debut for the Centaurs.

Head Coach Chris Kelly stated he was “proud to see such a strong display to open up the season, and the hard work the players have been putting in being realized. We had lots of new faces to the club and a resurgence of many of our veterans with everyone buying into the goals we have set for ourselves this season.”
