The Burlington Centaurs were hosts to the Mississauga Blues on Saturday May 13th in preseason action. Due to low numbers for the opposition, the 2nd XV’s game was only played for 40 minutes in which the Centaurs helped provide numerous players for the opposition side in order to get everyone a game. Burlington’s Josh Jones, Mike Boulanger, and Brock Kelly were standouts while wearing opposition colours, showing true rugby spirit along with all the other Centaurs who put on a Mississauga jersey for the day.
In the 1st XV match it was a very back and forward game with the Centaurs ultimately coming out on top by a score of 21-15. Try scorers included Gurvir Romana, Colin Mcleod, and Matt Woodley who was set free by a beautiful over the shoulder pop by Jordan Tanner. All three tries were converted by Fly-half Brendan Bryan.
The men’s coaching staff was happy that despite many last minute changes to the format of this preseason meeting, 47 Centaurs suited up to play as much rugby as they could get, and were more than willing to help out a neighboring club. Having so many athletes excited to play the game bodes well for the future of Burlington Centaurs Rugby.
